Prosecutors unite to bolster global fight against slavery

Prosecutors from more than a dozen countries joined forces this week at a landmark summit aiming to boost the global fight against modern slavery by convicting more criminals and tracing dirty money.

Five arrested over modern slavery in Derby and Latvia

Five people have been arrested during simultaneous raids in the UK and Latvia as part of an investigation into modern slavery and human trafficking. Six people have already been charged as part of the large-scale operation.

Airbnb promises to prevent ‘pop-up brothels’ at its rental properties

Airbnb says it is investing in new technology to clamp down on modern slavery in order to prevent traffickers from potentially using its properties as “pop-up brothels”. The company is teaming up with an anti-trafficking charity to train employees, develop new systems and work with the police to identify signs of slavery.

One in 10 senior politicians in Brazil funded by companies ‘linked to slavery’

An investigation has found that more than one in 10 of Brazil’s high-ranking politicians, among them President Michel Temer, received campaign donations from companies linked to modern-day slavery.
