Millions of domestic workers in Asia who are at risk of abuse and slavery have no legal recognition, the United Nations labour agency has warned, urging reforms at a meeting to protect the world’s “largest invisible workforce”.

Brazil’s top court suspends controversial slavery decree

Brazil’s Supreme Court has suspended a decree issued by President Michel Temer’s government changing the definition of slavery that was widely condemned as a reversal in the fight against forced labour.

World Bank: Ending child marriage would boost West, Central Africa economies

Reversing this trend could have major economic benefits, according to experts taking part in high-level meetings in Senegal this week aimed at reinvigorating the campaign to end child marriage in the region.

Police forces are failing to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking because the cases are too difficult and senior officers believe the public lack sympathy for the victims, a highly critical report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services has found.
