India approves ‘historic’ law to jail traffickers for life

India’s cabinet approved a tough new law which could jail human traffickers for life, giving a boost to efforts to crack down on the fast-growing crime. The Trafficking of Persons Bill, which will go to parliament for approval after it reconvenes later in March, aims to prioritise survivors’ needs and prevent victims from being jailed.
