Although illegal, but distressingly a reality, human trafficking in India still remains a major issue. In lieu of this crisis, over 2,500 survivors, representing seven states formed the Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking (ILFAT).                                    

Global spotlight on illegal mica mines drives Indian villagers to hide deaths

A Thomson Reuters Foundation expose in 2016 found children were dying in illegal mines but their deaths covered up with families given “blood money” to be silent and keep producing the mineral used in make-up, car paint, and electronics. Returning this year to two major mica hubs found mining was largely unchecked and that people were continuing to work – and die – in illegal mines.                  

Vietnam boats using child labour for illegal fishing

Children as young as 11 are working aboard Vietnamese vessels fishing illegally for seafood that could end up on sale in supermarkets in the EU and US, according to an investigation by the Environmental Justice Foundation.                  

Asia tops child labour and human trafficking activity

A new report indicates that a significant share of child labour and human trafficking in global supply chains occurs in activities such as raw material extraction and agriculture, with South-East Asia having the highest percentage of child labour.
