This grant will enable Anti-Slavery International (ASI) to strengthen and increase the provision of legal support for people of slave descent in Mauritania.
ASI will work with a local community partner, SOS-Esclaves. ASI will help build SOS-Esclaves’ capacity to document and pursue legal cases effectively at its national headquarters and help build SOS-Esclaves’ capacity to identify slavery cases and to offer legal support to slavery victims in Bassiknou, an area particularly affected by slavery.
The aim of this grant is to enable more individuals in Mauritania to leave slavery and to pursue the prosecution of the perpetrators of slavery in the national judicial system.
