MS Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation

M.S Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation seeks to provide mental health support across Tamil Nadu and facilitate a better understanding of mental health problems. In its work with the Freedom Fund, M.S Chellamuthu aims to assess the mental health needs of individuals working under exploitative conditions in the textile and garment industries and build the capacity of the Freedom Fund’s partner organisations to respond to these needs.

The M.S Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation will conduct a comprehensive qualitative assessment to identify mental health needs and issues affecting individuals, particularly young women, working as bonded or forced labourers in the textile and garment industries in the four program districts in Tamil Nadu. The assessment will focus on three specific objectives: to ascertain the key mental health needs of the target population; to identify barriers and challenges in accessing mental health care and services by the target population; and to map and identify currently available mental health care services in the program areas, and gauge the quality of these.
