Just three years ago, Bill Clinton took to the Clinton Global Initiative stage to announce the launch of the Freedom Fund.

“We should all support this – a $100 million Freedom Fund to combat modern day slavery,” he announced. “This is the ultimate designing and mobilising for impact.”

Founded by three of the big funders in the anti-slavery space, Humanity United, Legatum and Walk Free, the Freedom Fund is the world’s first private philanthropic initiative dedicated to ending slavery. Since our launch in 2013, we’ve partnered with over 100 frontline NGOs in countries including India, Thailand, Ethiopia and Nepal. Our work has impacted 207,383 lives and resulted in 8,923 individuals sustainably liberated from slavery.

We are halfway to achieving our commitment to raising $100 million to end slavery. At CGI today, we were honoured to premiere a new short film, produced in partnership with Humanity United. The film documents the Freedom Fund’s impact since 2013 – and also reminds us that there is much work left to be done before slavery is eradicated.
