Freedom Fund hotspot partners in southern India along with the Tamil Nadu Alliance developed an awareness-raising video on child marriage as part of the Freedom Fund’s Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund. This film is a call to action to community members to collectively come together to end child marriage and give young girls an opportunity to thrive.
Over the past seven months, since the initial coronavirus lockdown began in India, grassroots organizations in Tamil Nadu have observed a troubling increase in some districts of child marriages happening during this time when many families are faced with desperate situations. The lockdown has also driven many of these marriages out of public view, with families holding small gatherings within a home and out of the purview of local officials and child rights advocates.
